We are delighted to announce that the Rule of Law Expertise UK (ROLE UK) programme will continue for at least a further three years from April 2019 until March 2021, funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and delivered by Advocates for International Development (A4ID). The remit of the ROLE UK programme is to enable developing countries to access expertise from the UK pro bono legal sector to strengthen the rule of law by improving the policies, organisation and practices of legal and judicial systems and, in so doing, to reduce poverty. Our launch event on 3rd July 2019 will bring together past, present and future stakeholders to introduce the new ROLE UK programme strategy and celebrate international rule of law legal pro bono.
For the next phase of the programme, the creation of a ‘ROLE UK Strategic Forum’ will meet every six months and be open to former consortium members, as well as government, ROLE UK assignment beneficiaries, and the wider legal and development professions. From 11am to lunchtime, we will be holding the inaugural meeting of the ROLE UK Strategic Forum. It is our hope that this forum will provide a broad opportunity for our diverse partners to remain connected with our work, offer views to shape our strategy and importantly will help us overcome any critical roadblocks.
