On Monday, 6th February, ROLE UK ran a training workshop on Political Economy Analysis. The workshop introduced a range of pro bono stakeholders in the UK to the concept of PEA and provided practical tools that support its application.
ROLE seeks to strengthen the relevance and impact of international legal and judicial pro bono work. Seeking to bring about change in relation to the rule of law requires an understanding of the particular political and economic factors that exist within a context. PEA is an approach through which to consider these factors, identify underlying needs and problems in relation to the rule of law, and determine how legal technical assistance can contribute to effective and sustainable solutions.
ROLE's latest publication - Political Economy Analysis-Guidance for legal technical assistance – highlights the importance of ensuring that pro bono assistance responds to country specific needs and is sensitive to local dynamics.
ROLE intends to provide further training and support to the uptake of the approach during 2017.
